Hi Craig,
I got your reply and your latest email. This last one shows a much more accurate example of your knowledge of English. It is mostly correct, with only a few minor errors. Way to go!
I'm glad to hear you think I'm such a cute old guy. The "cute" is nice; the "old", though true, is always hard to accept, but I must face the inevitable. It is interesting that as we grow older, we don't really feel older. I feel like I am your age when I am with you. Then I look in a mirror and get a shock. Life's funny that way.
I am happy to see you enjoying your time with your mom and dad. How nice of you to help out with some cooking. I'm sure your mom appreciates it. Are the recipes turning out well for you? I noticed that you did not let me know your marks. I do know that you passed, but I'm curious to see whether you passed with marks that reflect your true ability, or whether you just worked to pass. Let me know, if you like. You said that people think boys (men) are lazy. That is not a fact. No one has to be lazy. And no one has to take advantage of that so-called reputation that men have. Being lazy takes other people for granted. This means that they assume other people will do things for them. I'm sure you will agree that that is not an honourable thing to do. So, steer away from laziness, and don't allow others to take your for granted, either. People are capable of great accomplishments, as long as they use their opportunities and the skills and talents that are their gifts at birth. There now. I think the lecture is over. Sorry. Must be the "old" man coming out.
LIfe's good here, as usual. I stay rather busy, but with no hard-fixed schedule to do most things, it is not bad at all. Summer rental season is almost over, so we have to shift gears and look for some long-term renters for a couple of our properties. I have pretty much finished the move to the beach property (where they don't allow rentals), so I can rent out my big place. Of course, furnished executive suites aren't cheap, so the potential market is small, and it may take a bit of time to find a tenant. I placed the advertisement in the newspaper today, so we'll see what happens.
A few of the HUST teachers (those of us who are in Vancouver), are getting together this coming Sunday at John Jane's house for a dinner party. I look forward to seeing how everyone's doing. It should be fun, and I know we'll all have great stories to share about our time in Harbin. I know it is a treasure I'll carry in my heart forever - largely because of you, Craig, who showed me such friendship and kindness. I think of you with great love, like family, as you said - kind of like a mix between a brother and an uncle. I cherish that. Until next time, convey my best wishes to your parents. When you next see old classmates, say "hi" to them from me. Bye for now.
Christian 7月26日 Normal people live in a normal dayHi Craig,
Just a note to remind you to do very well in your midterms, so that your final marks can be as high as possible. Use your ability, determination and hard work to succeed.
Trust all is well with you, and that you are getting through the courses relatively easily. All's well here.
Give my regards to your mom and dad, and say hi to any students who might remember me.
Bye
Chris

7月19日 ReplyHi Craig,
Thinking of you everyday, with only the most wonderful of feelings and memories.
Just a note to remind you to excel on your midterms, so that your term-end marks can be good. I know that these courses are more challenging than ESL, but I know, too, that you can do well in them, because I've seen your mind at work. Always remember that western teachers love it when students ask questions, so never be afraid to ask if you don't understand something, need clarification, or just wonder about something related to the course. (It can even help your mark - especially for participation).
Summer here is good, and I am beginning to get a few opportunities to enjoy it, now that I've caught up with the heaviest of the work that was waiting for me. Hope the weather suits you there. I'm sure the dust from the construction is annoying, though.
Stay well, Craig, and say "hi" to those who know me. Give my regards to your mom and dad. Bye for now.
